Agueda mission Herlings double successful!
After a second place in the first heat, Jeffrey Herlings finished second again today in the second series in Portugal. Herlings' regularity more than paid for itself because 'The Bullet' took both the GP and the leadership position in the MX2 World Championship! Paulin (5-3) and Osborne were allowed on the podium, but the big loser of the week
In the first series, Aubin took the holeshot, just like yesterday. Yet Herlings was soon able to take the lead. The 16-year-old top talent remained in the lead until ten minutes before the end of the match. When doubling the laggards, Roczen, who had risen from 6th to 2nd place, saw his chance. Roczen had to fight hard to come back with top performers like Paulin, Anstie and Osborne sitting in front of him. With five laps to go, the German passed his teammate Herlings and took his 7th series victory of the season. The loser of the match was Tommy Searle. In a duel with Anstie for third place, Tommy ended up outside the circuit and got the green barrier between his rear wheel. End of story for Searle. A seriously ill Osborne, under antibiotics, surprised everyone, including himself, with a brilliant third place. In the pleasant surprises category we also saw a beautiful Glenn Coldenhoff. Glenn advanced from 11th place to 7th place, after Joël Roelants.
Roczen immediately took the lead in the second series. Just like during the second round in France last week, things would go wrong again. Roczen fell over on the whoops and had to retire with an injured back. This time Herlings took advantage. Jeffrey led the field until halfway, but he lost some time when overtaking and Searle showed himself to be faster. Paulin, who had made a mistake in the first heat, corrected his slightly poorer first heat and finished third. With 5 and 3 scores, 'GP21' had enough for a second consecutive podium place. Tonus, who had tumbled spectacularly in heat one, now finished fourth, ahead of another strong-willed Osborne.
For the other lowlanders, the second series turned out to be less productive. After a fall, Roelants had to be satisfied with a 12th place, Triest became 13th, Coldenhoff 14th. Beursfoon-Suzuki's Mike Kras scored his best result of the day with an 18th place.
