Radson Trophy Paddock Talk: Beervelde
Partyyuh: Kevin Fors' fan club turned out in Beervelde with all its resources. After all, the Liège resident with East Flemish roots is firmly anchored in Ghent. With a mobile tap installation and a barbecue, the “Orange Shirts” were able to gain the necessary energy to shout their idol forward. Needless to say, the whole gang collectively went wild when their hero took the stage as the winner!
Revelation: The revelation of this round of the Radson Trophy was without a doubt Wietse Brackman. The Braco rider now seems to have mastered the adjustment to the MX2 engine and made his mark. In between the heats, the Aalst native received tips from Jeremy Van Horebeek.
Comeback: Tom De Belder explained his choice for the KTM SX-F 250 in Beervelde. “Originally I was going to ride MX1 on an SX-F 350, but that machine just turned out to be too strong for me. My shoulder is still not 100% and that means I don't have much strength in it. The choice for MX2 was therefore necessary. For the time being I am riding with the machine from KTM dealer Racing Center, but I have also ordered an SX-F 250 myself,” says the Heist resident.
non-starter: If there was a bad luck prize in the Radson Trophy, it would certainly have gone to home driver Niels Meganck in Beervelde. After just one lap in the first heat, Meganck passed by at a jog. Technical problems also caused the 2e heat before Meganck did not see the checkered flag.
Cold-blooded: People sometimes criticize the flagmen. But in Beervelde we noticed a lady who holds her own. After Kevin Schellens' crash, this lady did not hesitate to stand on the right of the track to direct the oncoming pack to the left. We are less concerned that some drivers still see a yellow flag as an encouragement to drive faster.
Motorsport Future: Jens Getteman and Damon Graulus, the spearheads of Topsport Vlaanderen in the Radson Trophy, found shelter in Beervelde under the beautiful canopy of Luc Laureys' Motor Adventure Team. Behind the motorcycles of both gentlemen there was a backdrop with their image. Although Graulus was not immediately enthusiastic about his portrait photo.
Tired: Despite his fifth place in the first heat, Dennis Dierckx soon found himself in trouble. The Antwerp resident felt tired afterwards. “Maybe there is also something wrong with my blood, like with some World Cup top players,” said Dierckx. “But now I'm going to eat some fries first,” he concluded, not without a quip.
Satisfied: When leaving the site we bumped into MC Mikkola president Heikki Declercq. Declerq was pleased with the fact that Mark Boot is still leading the standings in the Radson Trophy: “We are enjoying it while it lasts, although I am convinced that Mark has a real chance of winning the title. The future will decide.”
