Brent Van Doninck looks back on Sevlievo
15-year-old Brent Van Doninck made a positive impression during the 125cc European Championships in Bulgaria. The KTM rider set the fastest lap during time practice ahead of Italian Simone Zecchina, Swiss Seewer and Micha Boy De Waal. Brent's first series on Saturday was also good. He started well and was able to immediately take the lead. He was able to hold on for a few laps, but Zecchina continued to push and took over the lead. However, Brent was easily able to maintain his second position until the checkered flag. Dalon Graulus finished seventh, Dave Versluis (12th) was the best Dutchman.
The second 125cc round was also an Italian affair. Samuele Bernardini was in the lead from the start and won ahead of compatriot Zecchina. Van Doninck could not get into the rhythm in the beginning and had to let some riders go ahead. Moreover, he also made a mistake that put him back in 14th position. Just after the halfway point he started to accelerate, setting good lap times and came in 8th, ahead of Graulus. Jaap Corneth, who finished 7th, was the best Dutchman. Van Doninck finished fourth in the final standings. View all European Championship results here.
Brent Van Doninck: “After my good race on Saturday I was disappointed because I would have liked to be on the podium! On Sunday morning, I got up early to drive back to the track but I woke up sick with a sore throat and aching joints. Given the circumstances, I was fortunate to be able to recover towards the end of the second race.”
Brent will be in action in Mons next weekend. Next week he wants to try it in the European Championship MX2 in Valkenswaard. The second round of the 125cc European Championships will have to wait until July 3 in Sweden.
