KNMV: Kullas surprises the favorites, Herlings drives a blood-curdling catch-up race
Commotion at the start of the first MX2 round: teammates Herlings and Van Horebeek fall spectacularly and must start last. JM Racing rider Jordi Tixier cannot enjoy his holeshot for long because the fast Finn Kullas soon takes control. Tixier would hold on as second for the entire race. Who ever said the French can't go fast in the sand?
With Kullas in first, Tixier in third and Van Beers acquisition Petar Petrov in third, the podium is completely foreign. The Dutch MX2 champion Joël Roelants is never in the rhythm and only arrives in fourth place, just holding off an impressive Herlings. Because TheBullet Despite the plastic ribbon in his rear wheel, he has a very nice comaback up his sleeve. In 30 minutes and two laps, the Red Bull-KTM rider races from 39 to five, and also sets the fastest lap of the race! Good old Erik Eggens comes sixth for Van Horebeek.
Demonstration by Herlings
Jeffrey Herlings has no limits in the second heat. The local hero loses everyone and is in the lead from start to finish. Only teammate Van Horebeek can more or less stay in Herlings' rhythm, with Jerre finishing in more than 30 seconds. The Finn Kullas, who had a good start again, finished third and took the overall victory. Unlucky man of the day was Glenn Coldenhoff. Glenn was always one of the faster men, came third in the timed training, but crashed three times and had to settle for 19th place in the final standings. Joël Roelants finished fourth again, while Michael Van Wezel rode neatly to eighth place. Tixier was unable to repeat his feat of the first heat, but his sixth place is enough for a podium.
