Steve Piret to Inters MX1 from VBM
Steve Piret, who has long been one of the strongholds of the Luxembourg-Liège federation AMPL, will switch to the VBM this year. Piret will compete in the VBM at the Inters MX1 and can immediately be considered an outsider for the VBM title.
Piret already sounds enthusiastic about his switch: “After my manager Hans Snijers set up a team in the VBM together with Suzuki dealer VB Racing, it seemed like a logical step to follow Hans. Yoan Hella, another ex-AMPL rider, is also part of the new VB-S Racing team.” Piret is only pleased with the fact that a Super Final will be held at VBM from this year: “In the AMPL, the number of heats for the Inter class is being reduced from 3 to 2. At the VBM you ride the two “normal series” also in your own classes. And that is in contrast to the AMPL where you ride in an Open class. The contrast between the hard circuits of the AMPL and the sand tracks of VBM is in itself great. Still, I think I will be able to complete the transition successfully as I also competed in quite a few sand competitions during my time at the BMB,” said Piret. “But in the preparation I will mainly focus on motorcycle training in the sand,” Piret added.
Piret's preparation for the coming season in the VBM, however, is not going smoothly. De Waal injured his shoulder in mid-September and has not been on the motorcycle since. “I hope that I can train with the bike again within two weeks and gradually get back into my rhythm. However, that means that I only have a month and a half before the new VBM season starts. I have no illusions and know that I will have to work hard. Fortunately, the first matches of the season do not count towards the championship at VBM, so I still have a break-in period,” Piret explained.
