Belgium versus the Netherlands in Coupe de l'avenir!
This weekend the eyes of the Belgian cross world are focused on the tiny Walloon village of Angreau. After all, that's where the 39 will be founde edition of the Coupe de L'Avenir takes place. After the Royal Motor Union du Pays Noir threw in the towel in 2001, it was the Motocross Club des Haut-Pays that took over in 2005. The beautiful circuit of la Ferme du seigneur became the venue for the New Look Coupe de l'Avenir.
Unlike the past, in recent years the emphasis of the Coupe de l'Avenir has been more on the country classification than on individual performances. However, the Coupe de l'Avenir still proves to be a benchmark because the last three individual winners showed their best side in the GPs this year.
Which of the three?
Defending champion Belgium will start in Angreau with an unchanged team: Nick Triest, Jéremy Delincé and Kevin Wouts. The first two won silver on Sunday together with Manuel Priem in the European Motocross of Nations. In Angreau, Belgium may face the most competition from their northern and southern neighbors. Leon Giesbers, the Dutch national coach, selected Glenn Coldenhoff, Donny Bastemeijer and Ceriel Klein Kromhof. The latter was already on the individual podium in Angreau two years ago. France sends a particularly strong team with European MX2 champion Steven Lenoir as the main eye-catcher. The VAMO Racing Suzuki rider will be assisted by Richard Fura and Milko Potisek during the Coupe de l'Avenir. The latter made a splash last season in the MX3 World Championship. The other participating teams are: Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Luxembourg. In addition, there is a second Belgian team that will compete in the FPCNA colors.
The Coupe de l'Avenir will be held in two days. The training and qualifications are scheduled for Saturday, October 9. The first heat will be held on Sunday at 12:35 PM. This will be followed by another heat at 15:15 PM and a heat at 17:25 PM.
Directions: On the E19 motorway (Brussels-Paris), take the Dour exit. Then turn left and follow the N552 towards Dour-Quievrain until Elouges. From there follow the direction of Roisin and then Angreau, then follow the yellow arrows with blue letters “motocross”.
