Jeff Goblet about Mons
Jean-François Goblet talks about the BK Enduro in Mons from last weekend. As we already wrote in our report, Goblet had an affair there with Adriën Vandommele, about which he explains more.
Hallo,
Last weekend I was in Mons, for the penultimate round of the BK Enduro. There was only one special per round, but it had to be ridden twice each time. The special was beautifully designed on the site of the motocross circuit in Mons. The circuit was supplemented with narrow forest paths, all on very sandy ground.
Because I had not participated in the Esneux BK Enduro the week before, when I was riding the French GP, the BMB did not take my results in Noirétable into account. So I had to start among the Promised. That made every Special a calvary. The special was long, the speed differences were large and so I overtook much slower riders. The sand was also very heavy and wet. Actually there is only one good line, which means that, despite the good will of the less fast riders, I still lose important seconds. In addition, Kevin Gauniaux and Cédric Cremer both rode a strong and regular race on Sunday. After 3 specials and almost 35 minutes of chrono, I am second, 4 seconds behind leader Gauniaux and less than a second ahead of Cremer.
The last special will therefore be decisive. I am focused, I drive cleanly and I am enjoying myself thoroughly. In my second lap on the Special I approach Belofte Adriën Vandommele. To win I absolutely have to pass him. I shout, I roar and I beg him to let me pass. I try both left and right, get off track and lose time in the mud. I no longer have tear-offs and my goggles are full of sand and all that takes at least 3 minutes. With 30 seconds to go I try to pass him on a sandy strip along the outside. I fall quite hard, of course, get back up, pick up the bike, start it with the greatest effort in the world and finish the special, deeply disappointed. Balance: I ended up 18 seconds off the best time and finished third in the Scratch rankings.
When I finished the special, I was very angry with Adriën. He chose to slow me down without thinking about the consequences, when holding back for a single second would have sufficed. However, I regret this excessive anger and I apologize to Adriën, his team and to everyone present.
The next competition is the final of the BK Enduro in Hautrage on October 24. The battle for the Scratch title at the Inters will be decided there.
See you soon
