Wim Vanderheyden about BK Enduro Esneux
Last Sunday I was in Esneux at 7de test of the BK Enduro. A competition that was held in a beautiful region and organized by enthusiastic people. The strong man behind the organization is none other than BK promoter and reigning champion Thierry Klutz. So all the elements were present to make it a beautiful day.
The race took place over 4 laps of 70 km. When we came out of the paddock we immediately entered the first test. It was an X-treme test with 100% artificial obstacles ranging from concrete pipes, tree trunks to a lot of boulders and a supercross section. All this was set up in a limited space within the village center to closely involve the public.
From 2de test was halfway through the round, it was an enduro test through the woods on rocky surfaces with 2 nasty climbs. Furthermore, the route mostly took forest paths strewn with stones and roots, in short, real enduro. Although the chrono tests were not really tailor-made for my powerful Husaberg 570, I was still looking forward to it. Halfway through the race there were still 5 pilots within 10 seconds. I was in 3rd place at 7 seconds. from leader Cedric Melotte.
In the meantime it had started to rain and the enduro test became a battlefield where I made a mistake on one of the climbs and got stuck under the bike. I lost a minute and any chance of a podium finish. I finished my day with regular chronos and turned 7de general and again 2de in the E3 class. Damage limited, but still disappointed because there was more to it. It was striking that the 8 chrono tests had four different winners. I was once the fastest in the X-treme test.
Next week we go to Mons for the penultimate test of the Belgian Championship.
