Dungey also wins AMA finals
Two wins in Pala gave Ryan 'slamdunk' Dungey his 10de National victory of the season. Regular Andrew Short (3-3) came in second. However, second place in the championship went to Australian Metcalfe (2-3). Metcalfe thus completed Canard's Geico-Honda success.
If you want to bet money on the holeshot in the States, you can always go with Short. The sympathetic Red Bull-Honda pilot proved this once again in the first series. However, holding off Dungey proved to be a bridge too far. The Suzuki super rookie rode easily to victory. Fortunately for the audience, there were still fun duels between Ryan Sipes and Metcalfe. The surprisingly strong Sipes took fourth place despite the insistence of Kyle Regal.
In the second moto the holeshot was again for a Honda. Only this time it was Metcalfe. The ex-GP pilot saw his chance for a series victory, but Brett went over the handlebars on the fifth lap. Dungey thus took the lead, Short came in second. Metcalfe came back nicely from eighth place to become third ahead of Ben Townley.
