Tixier, Jacobi and Pinhancos junior world champion
The new Junior world champions have been announced. The names of the German Henry Jacobi (85cc), the American Jake Pinhancos (65cc) and especially that of the French 125cc world champion Jordi Tixier were prominently featured on expert lists in advance. Striking detail: the three are on the same motorcycle brand, namely KTM. Click here for a photo gallery of the Junior World Cup.
Despite a strong representation, Dardon Guegnon was generally a letdown for the Belgian and Dutch riders. No medals or title(s) this time. Although some comments should certainly be made. With a very fast, technical and hard circuit - almost no tracks either - our young pilots had to work on a very special track. Moreover, the competition was extremely tough. For example, in the 85cc class, about a hundred (!) riders were at the start, so not much can go wrong to excel. Brent Van Doninck seems to have been past his best form for several weeks and it is also unclear how much inconvenience he (still) experienced from his shoulder injury. Also Luca Nijenhuis didn't have his happiest weekend with a technical problem in the second heat and a comeback race in the first heat.
Still definitely worth it Bas Vaessen (5th in the 65cc) and Brian Bogers (8th in the 85cc and pole on Saturday) an honorable mention. Also Micha Boy De Waal (7th in the 85cc) showed his lion's heart in France by riding to fifth place in the second moto despite his broken arm - still in a brace and with a cast.
