No Cairoli and Philippaerts in MXoN?
As we said yesterday tweeted there is a lot going on between the Italian federation on the one hand and Yamaha Europe and KTM on the other. The dispute is about which logos are visible on the MXoN shirt of Tony Cairoli and David Philippaerts. This is a sensitive point for many teams and has also caused tension in the Belgian team in the (recent) past. In most cases it is the national federations that pay for the transport and accommodation costs. For the US, this is of course a big deal for the European teams!
The position of the Italian association currently seems to be a definitive one, which is why national coach Andre Bartolini has opted for Alexander Lupino in MX2, for MX1 and Open a choice will be made between Davide Guarneri, Manuel Monni en Alex Salvini. In other words; a B team.
On July 7, Cairoli and Philippaerts received the news about their selection. However, this Friday KTM and Yamaha Europe made it clear that their rider would not be available for the MX of Nations on September 26. Despite the Italian association's proposal to divide the four sponsor positions on the sleeve; 2 for the industry and 2 for the team.
The Italians are starting their sixth year with the Azzura project (the famous sky blue jerseys). This jersey is the only obligation because the logos on the motorcycle itself, on the pants, boots, gloves and helmet may be completed by the rider and his team.
Although the association does not understand why Yamaha Europe and KTM do not agree to this, they have accepted this decision. In turn, they say that all travel and logistics costs associated with the Italian team will be borne by the federation. This involves an amount of 50.000 euros to get the riders, motorcycles, mechanics, etc. on site. That category and so on even includes its own medical staff. More than likely to be continued. Because an MX of Nations without Cairoli and Philippaerts is not possible, is it?
