Cairoli new MX1 World Champion.
In Campo Grande, Brazil, Antonio Cairoli (KTM) became motocross world champion for the fourth time in his career. Cairoli was the best in the Brazilian GP and was able to take advantage of Clement Desalle's bad luck in the second moto to win his second consecutive title in the MX1 class. David Philipaerts (Yamaha), winner of the first moto, came second in the final standings and Max Nagl (KTM) came third.
In the first heat it was David Philipaerts who took the fastest start and never relinquished the lead. Behind him there was a fierce duel between Clement Desalle and Antonio Cairoli for second place. Desalle seemed to win the duel, but crashed a few corners before the end of the series when he had to avoid a rider who had doubled. The disappointed Desalle eventually crossed the finish line in third place.
In the second moto the fastest start went to Max Nagl, but he soon had to make way for Clement Desalle and Antonio Cairoli. Desalle withstood Cairoli's pressure for most of the moto but suffered technical problems three laps from the end. The Suzuki rider was forced to retire, opening the door for Antonio Cairoli to win his seventh GP of the season and clinch the world title. David Philipaerts came second and Max Nagl third.
In this way, Cairoli donates the first MX1 world title to KTM on the brand new engine that Stefan Everts developed for the Austrian brand. The penultimate GP will be held in Lierop, Netherlands, within two weeks.
