Musquin is in control!
Despite heavy pressure from Ken Roczen (1-2) in the second heat, the decisive second heat went to world champion Musquin (2-1). Van Horebeek had a great performance (4-5) but just missed the podium. Paulin (6-3) eventually finished third, his second podium of the season. Herlings finished third in the first heat, but hurt himself badly at the beginning of the second heat and gave up.
Series 1: Roczen outside category
Ken Roczen took the holeshot, but there were also fireworks to be seen behind the German. Polesitter Frossard made a mistake and delayed Teillet, Musquin and Verbruggen. With Herlings in third place ahead of Roelants and Van Horebeek, the lowlanders were off to a good start.
At the front, Roczen quickly built up a 10-second lead. Musquin had meanwhile gone on the attack. He successively defeated Van Horebeek, Roelants, Herlings and Simpson. Halfway through the race, The Jerre had passed Roelants. When overtaking the drivers behind, things went completely wrong for 'JR' a few laps later. The Negaan-JM Racing-KTM pilot crashed and managed to come back from 11th place to 9th place. Musquin stranded 30 seconds behind an excellent Roczen. Van Horebeek kept Herlings in his sights until the finish.
Musquin again!
This time Musquin was well away and he was followed by Paulin and Simpson. Roczen was around seventh place but the big news of the opening round was Charlier's spectacular tumble. However, the Frenchman seemed uninjured while Herlings took the brunt. The Bullet staggered to the side and grabbed his wrist and shoulder. Roczen saw the mood - with Musquin as leader - and reacted fiercely. The Teka-Suzuki promise rode a brilliant second lap in which he seemingly effortlessly defeated Frossard, Simpson and Paulin. Roczen even took over the lead from Musquin, but soon made a mistake. Now the winner of the GP of Limburg did not get further than the rear wheel of 'Marv Attack'. Van Horebeek was able to systematically rise and finished fifth after teammate Frossard. Roelants finished ninth for a second time.
