VMCF: Reactions after 't Fort in Koningshooikt
The Little Citadel, a technical, challenging circuit in an original setting: The Fort in Koningshooikt has been a stopping place for motocross competitions of all levels for years. The VMCF was our guest last weekend. And that certainly resulted in animated debates among the Inters. Here you can see the photo gallery. In the first series there was no problem against Marvin Van Daele, but when 'Smarry' fell early, the second series also became an exciting spectacle. Three of them fought for victory: David Segers, David Cools and Dennis Dierckx. The former Belgian MX2 champion Dierckx narrowly beat both 'Davids'. In MX2, Vincen Collet was fastest ahead of Fréderic Weigert and Mike Gilot. Click here for the full results.
David Segers, winner (2 – 2)
“I was second to Van Daele in the first series. However, his pace was too fast and I had to let him go. Still, I was certainly not dissatisfied with that second place. In the second heat I was fourth, but I ended up going head after Marvin's crash! Then I had to do some serious catching up! I'm certainly happy with today because I got the overall victory and I also did a good job in the championship. Next week there is another test on the program in Wachtebeke, so it is nice to feel that you are in good shape.”
Marvin Van Daele, 19th (1 – DNF)
“I had a great time at 't Fort until my fall in the second series! It had been since my first year as Inter that I had driven there, twelve years I think. I didn't know much about it, so it was actually a bit new. In the first heat I took the holeshot. With all that tossing and turning, that's definitely an advantage here. I took the holeshot again in the second heat, but I crashed while jumping down. Then I was hit by a car and I was left with a sore arm. So I finished the competition and I was afraid of a fracture, but that turned out not to be so bad.” More about Marvin's injury here.
Dennis Dierckx, second (5 – 1)
“In the first moto I was third when I attacked David (Segers) and I crashed. As a result, I lost a few places and came in fifth. A bad thing in the championship! Fortunately I was able to limit the damage a bit in that second race. I had a bad start, but I was able to take advantage of that massive crash with Marvin to make up some places. Just after half way I was able to take over the lead from Weigert. I felt like I could pull away from the pursuers, but suddenly my engine started to rumble and it almost stopped. Then I quickly switched back to first, and it came through again. At the end I came under pressure from Segers and Cools, but if you keep your lines at Het Fort, it is very difficult to pass. Driving is gradually going back in the better direction, although it is not yet as I would like.”
Stijn Verstrepen, fourth (3 – 8)
“I came third in the first series and fought with Segers for a long time. That was a nice start, but at the beginning of the second heat I was also in trouble after the fall of Van Daele and Maarten Govaert who was riding on it! As a result, they had to come back from just inside the top 20. Not easy, although it still went fairly smoothly. So all in all, I'm quite satisfied with my day. Riding in front of your own audience is always something! And last week in Kester it also went reasonably well.”
