Keeno celebrates birthday with GP victory!
Ken De Dycker completes the celebration on his 26th birthday with a double series victory! The MXM columnist held off a firmly seated Cairoli in a spectacular finale. Clément Desalle finished third in the second round and took the podium alongside De Dycker and the regular Philippaerts. Cairoli remains in the lead in the World Cup, but both Desalle and De Dycker (now fourth in the standings) did well in Germany.
To the delight of the home crowd, Max Nagl took the holeshot in heat 2, but he was immediately followed by Cairoli, Boog and Desalle. De Dycker was also in a good position from the start. After six laps Desalle took the lead again. However, just like in the first heat, Keeno appeared to have the longest breath. Xavier Boog finished fourth, good for fifth place in the final standings. The battered Nagl still had to let Guarneri go for sixth place, although his sixth place in the final standings was probably more than he expected. The returning Manuel Priem was rewarded with three points in the final race.
Keeno dominates first series
The sun gradually came out for the first MX1 race, which created more overtaking opportunities, although the circuit was still difficult. Mistakes were quickly made and Ken De Dycker (fourth away) was the only one to complete a beautiful, flawless course. After Boog's holeshot, Desalle seemed to impose his will, but the Suzuki rider got stuck in a climb and lost the lead. David Philippaerts also made an early mistake and Keeno took over the lead from Boog after five laps, who then had to continue without goggles.
De Dycker kept up his pace and won with a nice lead, ahead of Philippaerts, Desalle and Boog. We also got a nice duel to see the third place between Desalle and Philippaerts. Character man Nagl fought back his pain, having only undergone surgery on Monday for a broken collarbone, to finish fifth. Red-Bull KTM teammate Cairoli came back strongly from a dramatic start far outside the top 20. Ramon finished seventh and Strijbos ninth. Marc De Reuver was also doing well but made a mistake halfway through the race. At that moment Calimero was eighth.
