Preview: 41st Int. MX Wuustwezel
This Sunday, May 23, AMC is organizing Wuustwezel for the 41e times her International Motocross of the Molenbergen. This year, the competition in the North Antwerp border municipality is about the only one in Belgium where we will see a really strong field of participants at the Inters MX2. But there are also big names at the start in the MX1 class.
MX2: Who will beat Jeffrey Herlings?
With Joël Roelants and Shaun Simpson, two of the three podium finishers of the Spanish MX2 GP will be at the start in Wuustwezel. Both KTM riders seem to be really gaining steam now. The question, however, is whether they will be able to cope with the Dutch super talent Jeffrey Herlings on the Molenbergen. Herlings is without doubt the revelation of the current MX2 World Championship and wrote history last month at the age of 15e to win the Dutch GP. Jeremy Van Horebeek is the fourth candidate for the MX2 victory in Wuustwezel. The Brussels resident of the Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team was not yet on the podium this year, but showed impressive overtaking races in both Beervelde and Bellpuig. We can also expect “Quick Nick” Triest and Dennis Verbruggen to participate at the front.
We can count two up-and-coming young wolves among the outsiders: Mike van den Bogaert and Jordi Tixier. Van den Bogaert already made a name for himself this season in the ONK MX2 and Tixier dominates in the European Championship 125cc.
MX1: Voltage guaranteed!
Tanel Leok, the winner of the Spanish MX1 GP on Sunday, seems to be the logical favorite for the day's victory at the Molenbergen. But then he will first have to deal with a number of other drivers. Starting with sand hare Marc De Reuver. The Beursfoon-Suzuki rider knows the Molenbergen and is probably in need of a mental boost after a disastrous Spanish GP. However, the same reasoning also applies to Leok's teammate at LS Motors Honda, Davide Guarneri. The Italian has previously proven that he can perform wonderfully well in the sand. Another surprisingly strong foreigner is Tom Söderström. Will he be the first Swede in a long time on the podium in Wuustwezel? Then he will first have to compete against guys like Bas Verhoeven and Rob van Vijfeijken. Marvin Van Daele leads the Belgian delegation with, among others, Yentel Martens and AMC Wuustwezel club riders Kevin Wouts and Christof Godrie. Will one of them be on stage on Sunday night?
You can reach the Molenbergen via exit 3 (Wuustwezel/Brecht) of the E19. Then follow the N133 towards Wuustwezel, where the road to the circuit is indicated. More info at http://www.amcwuustwezel.be
