Suzuki MX2 duo on US GP
16-year-old German talent Ken Roczen is having a strong World Cup season. In 9 of the 10 rounds completed so far, the Teka-Suzuki rider finished in the top 3. Moreover, he managed to book his first series victory of the year during the first round of the Spanish GP. A victory that did not have a happy follow-up in the 2e heat when Roczen had to retire with engine problems.
It's no secret that Roczen, like many other current MX2 riders, dreams of a career in the United States. The Red Bull US GP which will be held this weekend in Glen Helen is the ideal showcase for the American MX industry, mainly based in California. With his series victory in the Spanish GP still fresh in his memory, Roczen is eager to prove himself in California.
“I have raced in the US before but never at such a high level,” it said Wunderkind. “It was good to have a weekend off, now we are going to the US to get back to the same level as during that first round in Spain. Before we go to Glen Helen we will probably spend a few days in Los Angeles. I hope it will be a nice trip and weekend before we travel to France.”
Roczen's teammate, Arnaud Tonus, is also keen to start his first American GP. Yet Tonus has already worked at a high level in the US: he defended the Swiss colors during the Motocross of Nations in Budds Creek in 2007. Tonus also won the Ricky Carmichael Award. After a mediocre Spanish GP, Tonus wants to get back into the top 5 in Spain. “I'm really looking forward to this GP, it's even a bit of a dream to be able to ride in Glen Helen,” says the Swiss. “I will have to work on my starts and we also have to get used to the type of ground and the track. It seems to be both a bit sandy and hard with those long climbs. In any case, I can't wait to get there.”
Roczen is currently in second place in the MX2 World Championship, 26 points behind Marvin Musquin. Tonus needs to make up eight points to sneak back into the top 5.
