Jonathan Barragan aims for Teutschenthal
Kawasaki is not doing well in the MX1 class this year. The brand from the Japanese city of the same name had an impressive MX1 line-up for the season with the official Kawasaki Racing Team and satellite team Bud Racing Kawasaki. However, leader Jonathan Barragan injured his hip in the week before the Dutch GP. The Greens also shared the blows in Bellpuig. Greg Aranda broke his lower leg in 2 places during the qualifying race on Saturday and will probably be out for three months. To make matters worse, Sébastien Pourcel also crashed hard in the first series on Sunday. The Frenchman complained of blurred vision and therefore chose to sit out the 2nd series. Yet there was also good news for Kawasaki in Bellpuig. That came from Jonathan Barragan, who is gradually getting back to his old self.
Jonathan Barragan: « I feel a little better every day. Since a few days I can swim and cycle again. That is my morning program. In the afternoon I work with my physiotherapist. That's the best way to get into good shape during my comeback. This week I will travel back to Belgium to consult with Doctor Claes. He will tell me when I can drive back. But I suspect that the 8th GP of the year in Teutschenthal will be the target. Mentally it is certainly not easy not to race. Especially here in Bellpuig where I won last year. But I'm already looking forward to working with the team again and achieving the expected results. Just before I got injured we had found the settings that best suited my style. I was very satisfied with the bike and am now eager to get back to the start of a GP.”
If Barragan meets the target deadline, we will probably see him back in action for the first time on June 13 during the 2nd round of the MX Pro Series in Kester.
