Greenflag: Pentecost trophies!
After a week of rest, it was high time to dust off our green flag. Because with the Pentecost weekend just around the corner, the national motocross event is running at full speed.
Is it just us, or have you always found the Pentecost weekend to be one of the highlights of the season? Especially with the good spring weather that is predicted for almost all of Belgium, this is the ideal time to put on the cross, enduro or trials boots yourself. In almost all amateur federations there will be a battle for the Pentecost Trophy this weekend. Perhaps not as well-known, or resounding, as the Easter Trophy, but still a mini-championship in itself. So high season.
There are also a few “classic motocross circuits” on the program this weekend. The VMCFriders are heading to this weekend Gouy-lez-Pietons, a sub-municipality of Courcelles. Coincidence or not, Gouy-lez-Piétons is also the home base of Clément Desalle. The Balenberg in the Tremelose sub-municipality of Baal, Sunday and Monday are the battleground for the VLM. The Balenberg can easily be called one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, circuits on the VLM calendar. Since the characteristics of this circuit differ considerably from those of the average VLM circuit, it is always the absolute top riders who are on the podium at the Inters.
Another classic, and even a major one, you can experience on Monday in Moresnet, true VBM then perhaps completes her busiest motocross of the season. The competition in the former mini-state can always count on the participation of “local heroes”. In the past, a celebrity from the nearby country of Herve always showed up in Moresnet. We are talking about guys like Eddy Seel, Thierry Godfroid or more recently reigning Belgian Enduro champion at the Inters E1, Cedric Cremer.
However, the latter must first compete in the French round of the Belgian Enduro Championship on the Rocroi plateau on Sunday. You can read more about that competition our preview of it. MCLB will pitch his tents at MC Poeke this weekend Noise sled.
For the BMB riders from the National classes there is a busy and important weekend planned. With the colons that are now awarded to Belgian Nationals (the national classes also compete for BC points in Wuustwezel), no less than 200 points can be collected this weekend. And the mechanics or dads will also be working hard this weekend. After the two series in Wuustwezel some 128 km have to be bridged to get from the Molenbergen to the Maastrichtersteenweg in Tongeren to drive. Some photos of the circuit in Tongeren see you here. Perhaps we can expect completely different results on both days because the difference between the circuits in Wuustwezel and Tongeren is considerable. On the one hand you have the sandy and flat course of the Molenbergen. And on the other hand there is the hard, loamy soil with height differences of Tongeren. Anyone who can get through both of these competitions without too many problems can already feel a bit more all-rounder.
In the Netherlands you can watch top class youth cross this weekend during the Youth European Championships in Halle which will be held tomorrow and Sunday. It remains to be seen whether we will ever see such a round of the European Youth Cross Championships in Flanders. And we are not even referring to the downright restrictive legislation that the Flemish government imposes when it comes to youth cross country. No, we're just wondering which VMBB club is man enough to dare to organize a not-so-lucrative event like this?
