Chad Reed wants to extend outdoor title
After a broken hand in early January, 2-time SX champion Chad Reed had to shelve his ambitions in the SX championship. That's why 'Skippy' now starts with a completely different attitude at the AMA Nationals that start today in Hangtown (Sacramento), California. The 27-year-old Australian is defending his MX title, although the circumstances are completely different now than in 2009. Last year Chad, who became a father for the first time two weeks ago, made the decision to compete in the Nationals just a few weeks before the start of the championship. to drive. Reed dominated the outdoors with 5 overall victories and took the title with four rounds to go.
How are you looking forward to the start of the championship?
Chad Reed: "I am really looking forward to it! It feels good to be able to race at a high level again and I hope to start with a strong result. It will be very interesting to see how we can translate the form in training and during testing into a competition. I know I'm ready and so is my bike. Rest assured the Kawasaki will be competitive.”
In any case, you will start the championship better prepared than last year?
Chad Reed: "That's right. Because I no longer had a chance at the Supercross title, I put all my time and energy into preparing for the Nationals. I learned a lot from that.”
You used to be the underdog outdoors, but as the reigning champion, all eyes are now on you?
Chad Reed: “Last year I started the Nationals without an outdoor win! A lot has changed in the past 12 months, but my goal remains the same. I want to win. When I see my motorcycle with the number 1 on the license plate, it makes me proud. On the other hand, it reminds me that you have to work hard to keep that record. But everyone is watching me anyway, so I don't get more pressure than usual."
