AMA SX Las Vegas: Dungey and Weimer
2010 Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey (Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki) won his sixth final of the season yesterday at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. In the Lites, Jake Weimer (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) won the East/West Shootout for the first time in his career.
Dungey grabbed the holeshot with Kyle Chisholm on his wheel. Chad Reed was quickly able to climb to second place. Good old Kevin Windham (Geico Powersports/Honda), who has been partying the past two races, started in the middle of the pack but had climbed to third place after eight laps, to the detriment of Chisholm. Dungey led the 20 laps from start to finish, Reed was second, Windham third. “I was super happy with my holeshot,” said Dungey, “because that was the key to my victory. It was a fantastic season and I am very proud of my title.”
In the Lites, Jake Weimer took home the Spike Holeshot Award ahead of his Canadian teammate Dean Wilson and ex-MX2 World Champion Christophe Pourcel. Pourcel passed Wilson on the first lap. Weimer, the champion in the West Class in MX2, built a nice lead so that the action in this exciting race was mainly behind the leader. On the fifth lap, Wilson regained second place from Pourcel. A fourth Pro Circuit-Kawasaki rider Josh Hansen, first tackles Pourcel and passes Wilson on the final lap to claim second place. “It's a great night for our team,” Hansen said. “We took the first four places and that is only possible because of the hard work that everyone has put in.
