AMA Hangtown: Reed confirms, Eli Tomac surprises
Self-knowledge is the beginning of all wisdom. The experienced Chad Reed (1+3) proved this once again yesterday. The Australian Kawasaki factory rider won the first round of the US MX Championship in Hangtown, Sacramento. Just like Tony Cairoli in the World Championship, Mike Alessi immediately managed to win with the new KTM 350. Alessi won the second series and came second overall. Regular Milsaps (3+2), Brett Metcalfe (5+4) and Josh Grant completed the top five.
Ken De Dycker climbed a few places in the first series but had to settle for eighth place. In the second race Keeno has a better start around sixth place. However, Ken cannot make a fist and finishes 11th.
Chad Reed said afterwards: “It was actually very easy in the first race. Like for Mike (Alessi) in the second series. I did enjoy myself. The past few weeks have been very busy with the baby and the preparations for the Nationals. I would have liked to participate in the American GP in Glen Helen next week. I still have a lot of friends in the World Cup paddock. I'm going to take some rest to be fresh for the next National in Freestone (Texas).”

Sensational victory for Eli Tomac!
An impressive collection of American and imported talent made the 250 class more than worthwhile. By winning his first professional race, 16-year-old Eli Tomac, son of the MTB legend John, immediately wrote history. Tomac, who rides for Geico-Honda, finished third in race one and won round two. SX champion Christophe Pourcel (1+3) finished second ahead of Trey Canard (7+2). Also check out the video with Tomac here.
The first series had a spectacular ending. After an aggressive start, Pourcel seemed to ride smoothly to victory. However, the Frenchman crashed, putting Eli Tomac in the lead. When he in turn made a mistake with three laps to go, Tommy Searle became the new leader. Searle was closely pursued by Pourcel and he took the victory with half a lap to go.
After a holeshot from Wil Hahn, Tomac took the lead early in the second heat and finished the job. His teammate Trey Canard comes second ahead of Pourcel. Rattray has had a very mediocre start to its Outdoor campaign. Styla comes 10th.
