Preview: ONK Motocross Gemert
For the first time in a long time, Dutch riders are in the lead in all classes of the ONK Motocross. And so Marianne Veenstra, Micha-Boy De Waal, Jeffrey Herlings and Marc De Reuver will come to Gemert on Sunday as respective leaders.
As is tradition, the organizing club, MAC Sint-Christoffel, always ensures a strong field of participants in Gemert. The fact that the race takes place a week before the Benelux GP in Valkenswaard may explain that this year there will be more foreign top riders behind the starting gate than ever before.
Foreign violence visiting
In the MX1 class, ONK leader Marc De Reuver competes against riders such as his teammate Kevin Strijbos, Joshua Coppins, Tanel Leok and Davide Guarneri. The American Jimmy Albertson ultimately failed to attend. Naturally, the regular Dutch and Belgian participants will also be present in Gemert. Yet in Gemert all eyes will be on one rider: Jeffrey Herlings. The 15-year-old KTM factory rider is completing a home race in Gemert. After all, Herlings lives in the Gemert sub-municipality of Elsendorp.
The number three in the standings of the MX2 World Championship and the leader in the ONK of the same class starts with a large lead. Herlings already has a 25 point lead over reigning champion Joël Roelants. But with opponents like Jeremy Van Horebeek, Steven Frossard and Shaun Simpson, exciting matches are a certainty in Gemert.
