Preview World Enduro Championships in Portugal
After the GP of Spain, the opening round of the EWC 2010, the endurists will remain on the Iberian Peninsula for a while. This weekend the EWC circus will descend on Fafe, Portugal.
In Fafe and the surrounding area, riders are presented with 3 laps of 60 km every day. The route mainly consists of paths between Eucalyptus forests. The subsoil is a mixture of rocks and granite. If there is any rain, and there is a good chance of that in April, this could cause a lot of problems. The competition has Polisport, also a Portuguese main sponsor.
Fight on the edge!
In E1 class, everyone is preparing for a sequel to the exciting match between Johnny Aubert en Antoine Meo. However, the question remains whether Meo can go all out in Portugal because the Frenchman hurt a knee during one of the last tests on Sunday.
Just like Meo and Aubert in the lightest class, two riders also share the lead E2. Both Mika Ahola as Ifrom Cervantes took a day's victory in Spain. On Saturday Cervantes had to give up the lead after a mounting bolt came loose, but on Sunday he proved to be faster than Ahola. Frenchman Rodrigue Thain surprised at the TM in Valverde del Camino and obviously hopes to be back on the podium during the Polisport GP of Portugal. But then he will be a multiple world champion Juha Salminen must try to hold off.
In Spain everyone was impressed by the supremacy in E1 from KTM Support rider David Knight. Despite victories in both first rounds, the Manxman is not yet completely satisfied. Knight indicated that he would use the week between both GPs to further fine-tune his motorcycle. Nevertheless, Knight is a strong candidate in Portugal Christophe Nambotin expect because the Frenchman can handle the typical Portuguese Eucalyptus forests like no other.
