Jeffrey 'The Bullet' Herlings dominates MX2!
TheBullet did not tolerate the slightest resistance today. In the style of the greatest, his idol Ricky Carmichael and mentor Stefan Everts, Herlings (Red Bull-KTM) left his mark on the Dutch GP. It was barely his third GP, but Jeffrey won both series with ease. The Frenchman Steven Frossard finished third in the GP. Roczen had a strong day with two second places and also took the lead in the championship after a difficult day for Musquin. The difference between Roczen and the reigning world champion is barely 1 point, Herlings follows Roczen at 8 points. Roelants missed strong starts and finished sixth, equal in points with Musquin, number five.
In the first series, Herlings took the holeshot, quickly ran out by 10 seconds and the super talent from Elsendorp rode without any problems to a masterful series victory. Behind the lonely 'Bullet', Ken Roczen completed his race equally unthreatened. Simpson finished third, but this was followed by a group of very evenly matched riders. Roelants became the best Belgian, but Van Horebeek wrote the strongest comeback. The CLS-Kawasaki rider fought back from 36th place to finish 11th.
The demonstration that Herlings delivered in the first heat was easily repeated in the second heat. Lead starter Nicholls could not benefit from his strong starting position and finished 10th. Roczen finished second again ahead of Kawasaki duo Frossard and Van Horebeek. Musquin, who received a green ribbon in his rear wheel in the first moto, made a mistake in the second moto, although his crash on Saturday in particular could have had much more serious consequences. The hoped-for top day for the Belgian MX2 pilots did not materialize. After a tough first heat, Van Horebeek finished fourth, enough for seventh place in the GP.
Jeffrey Herlings: “It was perfect to win like that in front of your home crowd. My starts have been good all season, but I had two very good starts again and was able to just ride my own rhythm. That second series seemed to last three hours! The track had also turned out to be very tricky. Off the track it was really a madhouse, with so many people for my first Dutch GP. I want to thank my team, my parents and God for allowing me to experience this wonderful day.”
Ken Roczen: “What a day, I don't know where to start! I didn't have any bad starts, and the end result was of course fantastic. The red leadership position is a great reward for all the hard work that myself and the team have put in. Now of course I wanted to keep that leadership position!”
