Season start: VMCF for dummies
VMCF (Flemish Motocross Federation) originally stood for Free Motocross Federation. This federation arose from the FMC (Motocross Federation), an association that succeeded the BVM (Belgian United Motorcyclists' Union) in 1999, which was defunct at the end of 1998.
In 2010, the VMCF is a member of UMC Vlaanderen, an umbrella organization of motor sports federations. In addition to VMCF, MC Lille and AMC Genk are also members of UMC Vlaanderen. Of all the amateur federations, VMCF is without a doubt the one that covers the largest area of action. VMCF's most important regions are without a doubt East Flanders and Hainaut. In addition, VMCF also has competitions in Flemish Brabant, West Flanders, Antwerp, Limburg and Namur. This obviously results in a very large variation of circuits and soil types.
Unlike the FAM federations, in the VMCF youth riders can start on the same day as adult riders. This means that a total of about 20 different classes will start on a Sunday at VMCF. At international level, VMCF is a member of the IMBA (International Motorsport Association for Amateurs), which means that VMCF riders can participate in the various European Championships organized by the IMBA.

The circuit top 3 of: Maarten Govaert
Maarten Govaert has been combining the VMCF and the BMB calendar for a number of years. The Sixstar Racing rider shined his light on the VMCF circuits. Below are his top 3:
1) Manager: “For me, this circuit is the undisputed number 1 on the VMCF calendar. With its natural height differences and harder surface, it is almost Walloon's answer to Kester. The part in the valley is quite technical with landscaped jumping mountains. Manage is also a sharp judge in the championships every year.”
2) Werchter: “In Flanders we are often forced to race on a meadow. The Omloop in Werchter is a textbook example of how you can make a meadow circuit attractive. The organizers make it something fun every year with a washboard, table mountains and curves. Moreover, the circuit can also benefit from rain.”
3) Rognee: “It wasn't that easy to find a third circuit. There are a few nice special circuits such as Koningshooikt, Vollezele and Horebeke. In the end I go for Rognée, a “concrete track” in Namur. We actually don't drive on such circuits enough in Belgium. On the other hand, I must also emphasize that some circuits have a nice layout, but are hardly maintained. In Koningshooikt, for example, the brake clips simply remain in place year after year.”
