Preview: BK Beloften 2010
On Sunday the Genk's Horenbergsdam driven for the first BK points of the season 2010† At the Promises This immediately means a baptism of fire for many drivers national level. Who will run at the front and who will play for the marbles? MXM already provides a glimpse of the veil.
A new generation
With 57 licensees remain the Promises one of the most popular classes of BMB Motocross. The 57 Promises include quite a few rookies, drivers who will complete a full season in this class for the first time. When looking at the list of participants, it is striking that an almost balance has now been achieved between Walloon and Flemish riders. Three girls will try to hold their own this season among their 54 male colleagues. But for Brenda Wagemans, Britt Van Roy and Yentl Van Houdt, women's championships such as the German Bo-Oil MX Ladies Cup and the FIM women's World Cup take precedence. More figures and facts about being the Promised class here to find.
The contenders
With the exception of Thomas Van Tichelen en Bernard Beaujean the entire top 10 of 2009 moved to a higher class. A factor that makes the title fight more difficult to predict. The only competition held so far was the Opening Cross in Lommel and that was already a month and a half ago. Based on Lommel's results, four names emerge. On the one hand, that of a winner Vincent Foucart en Jens Ghesquiere, both active last year in the Juniors MX2 of MCLB. Foucart won both series in Lommel and immediately made his mark. West Flemish Ghesquiere came 5e general and that was a big improvement compared to his BMB debut last year Mont Saint Guibert, where he remained scoreless. Ghesquiere and MC Mikkola teammate Thomas Van Tichelen can certainly be counted among the contenders. Van Tichelen, who is starting his third season with the Beloften, made himself noticed in the sand competitions last year. On circuits such as Axel, Lommel, Wuustwezel and Balen the MC Mikkola rider can therefore play a significant role.
Two other drivers who could play a significant role given their track record Robin Luyck en Kevin Van Geldrop. Luyck was named last year U23 champion at the FAM and must therefore be able to handle different circuit types. Ex-VLM colleague Van Geldrop proved with a 2e place in the FAM Juniors MX2 Championship even with all its potential. Another rider with MX2 experience at a slightly higher level Joeri Van Malderen. Van Malderen became vice-champion last year at the Nationals MX2 of VMCF. Joeri became known to the general public thanks to the mini docusoap in “Man bijt Hond” in which he and Elien Dewinter were followed for a week.
The offensive from the Ardennes
In Lommel, two AMPL riders were immediately at the front: Jordan Hebette (3e) On Steve Thielens (4e). Both are part of a group AMPL riders who are taking their chances at national level this year. These riders can count on support from the AMPL Board and are accompanied by the experienced Laurent Lacasse. By the way, Thielens is not ready for his test piece because he already became champion at the Seniors MX2 from AMPL. The younger Hebette finished fifth in the same championship. Both gentlemen were able to maintain themselves in the top 10 of the Inters during the AMPL competition in Grandvoir last weekend. However, it remains to be seen to what extent the AMPL delegation can hold its own in sandboxes such as Axel, Lommel or Keiheuvel. The ice rink in Lommel can therefore hardly count as a reference. Harder, Walloon circuits such as Rognée, Limes, Nismes and Orp-le-Grand then again seem to be just the thing for them.
The 85cc graduates
A final group to watch out for are the guys who were on an 85cc motorcycle last year. The question is how these often very young talents will cope with the step from 85cc two-strokes to the much more powerful 250cc four-strokes. Although not everyone immediately opts for a 250F. Ben David, Dietger Damiaens, Jonas Salaets. These boys were already introduced at MXM by BMB youth coach at the end of last year Yves Devlaminck. The relevant articles can be found here and here.
However the Beloften BK 2010 turns out, one thing is certain: it will be an exciting season for those who enjoy exciting youth cross country.
