Brent Van Doninck looks back on Halle
The ONK Halle promised an exciting showdown between the best Belgian 85cc rider Brent Van Doninck and his Dutch peers. It never got that far, although the KTM pilot from Herentals took pole in the qualifications ahead of Jeffrey Ebbers and Micha-Boy De Waal.
Brent: “In the first heat I had a good start at the gate, but I entered the corner in the middle of the pack. I was able to get to fourth place fairly quickly and then I went to second. Then I made a mistake and couldn't get the engine running again. I stood still for almost a lap! When I was finally able to leave again it was of course too late, I came in thirteenth.”
The second heat starts similarly, with a quick reaction at the gate after which Van Doninck loses ground. In the second lap he is still eighth, but Brent has found the right rhythm and is making up time on leader De Waal lap after lap. Brent even comes second in Micha-Boy's wheel. Then he makes another mistake, because Brent was ill last week, the barrel is now definitively finished. The young Belgian comes in third after De Waal and Brian Bogers to take sixth place in the final standings.
