VIDEO Montevarchi: Italian Championship
Former world champion David Philippaerts did not miss his start in the Italian championship. The Yamaha factory pilot was twice the strongest in the rather muddy Montevarchi. MX1 debutant Davide Guarneri was the surprise of the day with a second place.
In the first heat, Guarneri even put pressure on his compatriot until the end, but he failed at 1,3 seconds. Josh Coppins also had a fruitful debut. He immediately achieved a podium place in his first race with the Aprilia two-cylinder. The New Zealander finished on equal points with LS Motors-Honda leader Tanel Leok, but a better result in the second series decided in Coppins' favor. Manuel Priem finished ninth in the final standings, Bas Verhoeven fifteenth.

Successful Valence rehearsal for Paulin
The opposition in the MX2 was slightly less strong than in the queen class. The 19-year-old Frenchman Gautier Paulin therefore became the logical winner. In the first series, Paulin ignored the second, Marcus Schiffer, for almost 33 seconds! There was more pressure for Paulin in the second series because European MX2 champion Christophe Charlier (second) continued to follow nicely, while Nicolas Aubin was spared from bad luck this time. Glen Coldenhoff finished eighth overall. Herjan Brakke only scored in the first series.
The second round of the Goldentyre Internazionali d'Italia will take place in Castiglione de Lago in 14 days. Just like Montevarchi, it was a GP track in the recent past.
Series 1 – MX2: 1 Paulin, 2 Schiffer, 3 Charlier, 4 Moroni, 5 Chiodi, 6 Larsen, 7 Kullas, 8 Cervellin, 9 Aperio, 10 Pellegrini, 11 Coldenhoff, 17 Brakke
Series 2 – MX2: 1 Paulin, 2 Charlier, 3 Aubin, 4 Schiffer, 5 Kullas, 6 Larsen, 7 Chiodi, 8 Maddi, 9 Battig, 10 Irt. 11 Coldenhoff, 25 Brakke
