GALLERY: a day in the wake of Livia Lancelot
Livia Lancelot's fate was cruel last year. The 2008 world champion had three GP victories (out of four!) to her name, including a brilliant home victory in Ernée. Moreover, for the first time in her career, Livia was regularly faster than Steffi Laier. A few days before the German GP, the beautiful Frenchwoman unfortunately made a mistake during training in Lommel. Her shoulder turned out to be badly damaged and the dream of extending her world title burst like a bubble. Lancelot had to have surgery on the right shoulder. This was followed by four months of rehabilitation before she was allowed to drive again.
To make matters worse, there was no longer a place for Lancelot at Kawasaki Racing Team in 2010. However, the biggest star of the Women's World Cup found shelter at the ambitious HDI-KTM team from Toulouse. The French KTM team already made a good impression last year with Anthony Boissière and Arnaud Tonus. This year HDI, which stands for High Development & Innovation, will be active on three fronts with Valentin Teillet in the MX2 World Championship, Mathias Bellino in the MX1 World Championship and Livia Lancelot in the WMX Championship.
After three years in a factory team, it will be quite an adjustment for Livia to now drive in a private structure. However, Lancelot is ready to take on the challenge. This winter she worked hard to get back into top shape with intensive running, cycling and swimming training. The adjustment to the KTM SX250F is also going in the right direction. Next weekend Livia will make her competition debut on the KTM in Valence. Photographer Eric Malherbe recently went to Itteville, just outside Paris, to follow a day in the life of the professional MX rider. That resulted in a beautiful photo report. Judge yourself!
