Dungey creates a gap in Atlanta, Pourcel in extremis
The Georgia dome in Atlanta guarantees a spectacle every time. This time too it was no different. Falls, exciting denouements and the joyful return of Ricky Carmichael himself in one of his favorite stadiums for the SX championship. A packed stadium went completely crazy when RC signed up for the parade lap.
The Quad jump was also a much-discussed event. In the early practices, Windham and Millsaps had made a bet to jump him in the first round. The colossal jump was eventually adjusted slightly and eventually the Lites were also able to take this jump.
At the lites we saw a super exciting race between Wilson, Barcia, Stroupe and Pourcel. They all took the lead at times, but in the end it was Pourcel who prevailed again. Wilson took the best start and led half a race. Behind him, Barcia and Pourcel fought a fierce duel that even caused them to lose a lot of time to the leader. Eventually they found the connection and Barcia was relegated to fourth place. Barcia also took the lead but was on the ground moments later. A few laps before the end, Pourcel took the lead to take his second victory of the season ahead of Barcia and Metcalfe.
In the 450 class we saw a head-to-head battle between Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto. It looked like it would be a great duel when Villopoto suddenly hit the ground and could not immediately get his engine going. He finished 19th and lost many points to winner Dungey. Third contender for the championship Josh Hill struggled hard in training and suffered from stomach/rib pain. He still finished sixth in the final. Second place surprisingly went to Trey Canard, who now that there are no Lites West races, comes to gain experience with the big boys. Davi Millsaps finished third.
