Cairoli and Roczen win in Valence
In a very cold and windy Valence, Tony Cairoli easily repeated his victory in Mantova. The Italian won the second heat and the combined MX1+MX2 super final. David Philippaerts was regular enough to finish second, but a smart Steve Ramon was the only one who could follow Cairoli in the last two heats. Despite a poor first series in which Ramon finished 12th (arm pump), he was still able to climb onto the podium at the end of the day.
Strong turn for the French
The French also played a leading role in their own spring classic. MX1 debutant Boissère (Fazza-Jobé-KTM) finished fourth overall ahead of Seb Pourcel. Jacky Vimond's pupil Greg Aranda warmed the more than 8.000 spectators present with a brilliant start-finish victory in the first MX1 series. Ken De Dycker suffered from technical problems today, which meant he failed to finish twice. In the category 'fast but unhappy' we also mention Clément Desalle and Tanel Leok. Desalle was eager and seemed to be on his way to a strong result in the super final, but 'MXPanda' made two mistakes. Estonian Express Tanel Leok seemed to be fighting leader Cairoli in the second heat until he had to deal with electrical problems.
Roczen asserts himself
With a deserved series victory (second moto) and a third place (first moto), Ken Roczen had an excellent basis to win the final standings in MX2. The Suzuki Youngster became the third MX2 rider in the super final, after the unleashed duo Frossard-Paulin, and that was just enough to hold off Marvin Musquin. The reigning world champion had won the second round. Regional rider Steven Frossard took third place ahead of French MX2 champion Gauthier Paulin. With sixth place overall, the KTM factory rider became the best lowlander, while ex-teammates Vanhorebeek and Roelants finished sixth and seventh respectively. Brand new Negaan-JM Racing-KTM pilot Dennis Verbruggen made a positive impression in the first moto, in which Dennis hung third for a long time. Ultimately he would finish sixth. In the second series 'Crusty' had an excellent start again, but due to problems with the throttle he was unable to repeat his strong first race.
