Brazilian GP moves to new location
The return of the Motocross World Championship in Brazil last year was an absolute success. However, Canelinha will not be visited again this season. It will be replaced by Campo Grande in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The date remains unchanged, the weekend of August 21 and 22.
The choice for Campo Grande came after consultation between Youthstream and local promoter Bracco International. Both parties have also signed an agreement until 2014 in connection with the organization of MX GPs in South America and especially Brazil. Not only will a new track be constructed in Campo Grande, an additional advantage is also the prospect of dry weather in August. That weather resistance was certainly a weak point in the case of Canelinha! Important support has also been provided for this GP from the local government of the province of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Frederico Carlo, CEO of Bracco said: “People are really crazy about motocross in South America! We have everything at our disposal to make the Motocross GPs here a huge success: the best circuits and top accommodation. Riders, teams, the public, sponsors, media and host cities… we can pamper everyone. These are great prospects for motocross in general and local riders. This allows us to grow the sport and the level of sport will also rise. From 2011 we want at least 2 GPs per year in South America on the Motocross World Championship calendar.”
