2 out of 3 for Dungey, 3 out of 3 for Weimer
At the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Ryan Dungey once again confirmed his level of form. After a great race he managed to muscle his way past James Stewart and Josh Hill to take his second win of the season. Despite the heavy rain last week in California, the people of Dirt Wurx managed to keep the track dry and once the sun shone on Saturday it was not a mudcross but a full-fledged SX.
It was again Austin Stroupe who took the holeshot ahead of Stewart and Hill. Dungey had a poor start and only finished in seventh place. Stewart and Hill soon passed Stroupe and Stewart took the lead, despite being in severe pain. Hill passed his teammate on the sixth lap and took the lead. In the meantime, Dungey had started an impressive advance and just before the halfway point he found himself in touch with the leaders. He first passed Stewart and then waited to take the lead from tired Hill on the 14th lap. Dungey then rode unthreatened to victory and thus left his mark on this SX season even further. He made a better start in his first season than the great McGrath did at the time, so that bodes well for the future!
In the lites the victory again went to Jake Weimer. The Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider only had to tolerate his teammate Josh Hansen in the first corners and authoritatively achieved his third victory of the season. Honda riders Wil Hahn and Trey Canard finished second and third, respectively, and Josh Hansen fourth. Gautier Paulin was in the running for a podium place for a long time, but made a mistake and fell back to sixth place. Paulin returns to Europe this week and can therefore speak of a fairly successful SX preparation in the states. Max Anstie finished seventh in the final while Searle did not reach the final.
Ryan Morais, who was one of the only people who could threaten Weimer in recent weeks, crashed heavily and could not participate in the final.
Next week the riders will head to San Francisco for the fourth race.
