Weekend preview: SX Munich
After a year's break, it's time again for the traditional Munich Supercross. Still one of the largest SXs in Europe and one of the few races over three days. The Germans like to throw a great party and that will be no different in the renovated Olympiahal. In addition to the SX1 and SX2 classes, supermoto, FMX, parties and a sales fair are also on the program.
King of Munich
Munich is the third race (of four) in the ADAC SX championship. In the standings, American Cole Siebler is in the lead ahead of two compatriots: Jason Thomas and Tiger Lacey. Admittedly, not exactly the biggest names, but the German SXs always offer a field of participants that is very evenly matched. There is enough quality to make it a great show. On the American side, ex-Supercross world champion Heath Voss, Kyle Chisholm and the young Travis Sewell will be at the start. The local German teams are also doing their best to provide a European counterbalance. Many Frenchmen among the 'mercenaries': Soubeyras, Izoird, Richier, Vanni, Sallefranque, Coulon and Rouis. And also two Belgians in the SX1. Jurgen 'Woby' Wybo rides for Team Twenty Suspension-Suzuki and Yentel Martens rides for KTM Kosak. There is even more Belgian input thanks to Freddy Verherstraten, who was responsible for the design of the SX and supermoto circuit. The overall winner of the weekend can of course call himself King of Munich.
Who will be Prince?
In the MX2 –excuse me le moth– SX2 class, some Dutch people are at the start. Namely Menno Aussems and Nick Kouwenberg. Unfortunately no Rinus Van De Ven, the specialist of better indoor work now has a crack on the other wrist. Rinus hopes to be there in Dortmund in January for the closing event of the championship. The battle for the championship seems to be between the Frenchman Boris Maillard and the British Ashley Greedy (also known from Goes) and Jack Brunell. Or who knows, the winner of the Christmas Cross, Shannon Terreblanche, could provide a surprise…
In the SX3 (which is 85cc in this case) we find the fast Nancy van de Veen. Micha Boy De Waal failed to attend due to a shoulder injury. The youth drivers only work on Sundays. On the list of FMX riders we find two-time world champion Remi Bizouard, Fabian Bauersachs and the Belgians Gilles Dejong and Jimmy Verburgh.
