Monster Energy Super-X title for Reed!
More than 25.000 noisy compatriots watched local hero Chad Reed win his first title on Kawasaki. Reed switched from Suzuki to Kawa just before the start of the Monster Energy Super-X series. Skippy won the final Australasian SX Championship in Brisbane ahead of American guest rider Davi Millsaps and Australian Jay Marmont. 18-year-old American PJ Larsen was sixth.
In the final standings over seven races, Reed finished 21 points ahead of Dan Reardon and Marmont. Reed, the 2009 American outdoor champion, had a hard time at times in the Australian Super-X. Against all odds, the two-time AMA Supercross champion even came under pressure. Jay Marmont won two games and Dan Reardon won one.
In the Lites class, Kyle Cunningham, also an American, won. The Yamaha pilot fell four points short of Matt Moss (Rockstar-Suzuki) for the title in the Lites. James Stewart apologized for his absence in a video. Joe-Gibbs-Racing leader Josh Grant had flown downunder as a replacement. Grant easily won a qualifying series before giving up. During practice his Yamaha had been thrown into neutral and he had hurt his knee in the subsequent crash.
Chad Reed: "I want Kawasaki and Monster Energy for their trust. We are going to make it a fantastic season together. I know we have had highs and lows in this championship, but that is part of it. In the end I won and that's all that matters. The Super-X championship continues to grow and I am happy to be able to contribute to that. I'm sure next year's championship will be even bigger and better!”
