File: Limburg MX terrains
In the follow-up to the 'Save the Motocross' actions, Minister of Sports Philippe Muyters had promised to continue the search for permanent motocross circuits. The provinces had to announce their preferences by today, December 15. Two weeks ago, LDD provincial councilor Jo Vanderstraeten for Flemish Brabant launched the idea of using the Rock Werchter meadow as an Mx terrain. This proposal was not immediately met with general applause. Deputy Karin Jiroflée did not even see a permanent solution in the densely populated Flemish Brabant. At least in the open air. “Maybe an indoor solution can be worked on,” Jiroflée suggested in 'Het Nieuwsblad'.
The Limburg provincial government wants four permanent motocross circuits, but it seems very uncertain whether there will ever be regularization for Kaulille and Waterloos. Deputy Cremers, responsible for Sports and Spatial Planning in Limburg, put his finger on the wound today in 'Het Belang Van Limburg': “The biggest bottleneck is that there is no clear coordination between the environmental permit and the spatial implementation plan. What do you record in the spatial plan and what in the permit? The number of hours that racing is allowed, the mitigating measures, where should they be located? We thought we would arrange this in the environmental permit, but for the Council of State it must be included in the spatial implementation plan. There is no clear legislation and therefore room for interpretation. The question always remains which element the Council of State will come up with next time. That is why we ask the minister to clearly record everything in a decree.”
