Highland: new kid on the block?
It is now more than clear that the European motorcycle manufacturers know how to hold their own against the Japanese giants. Now there are of course some lesser-known builders who take their time to build up credibility and reliability and then make their move at the right time.
V-twin pioneer
The Swedish producer Highland is one of them. Highland started in the late 90s with an impressive all-road, enduro and supermoto with a 950 V-twin engine. This was long before KTM came up with this concept. Over the years, they have focused more on developing engine blocks than actually producing motorcycles.
Husaberg roots
However, thanks to the fact that many of their employees have a history with Husaberg, they still have some cross and supermoto projects planned. They currently have a 450 dirt bike and supermoto in their range. They also have this asphalt pusher in a high-powered 507 cc version. The latter also won the 2009 national supermoto championship. That's a promise.
Rumors are circulating that Highland will soon join forces with an American builder and will also focus on the Asian market. To be continued, no doubt. You can find out more about this brand at www.highland.se.
