Video: Donny Schmit sets a good example
Snow usually has a bad connotation for us: cold, slippery, dangerous and, above all, a lot of traffic misery! Ironically, sometimes we just can't get enough of it, like during winter sports. It just depends on how you look at it. Donny Schmit thought so too. The legendary American who rode to two world titles. We have dug up a great old clip for you in which Donny is having fun in the snow. Just seeing it gives you a warm feeling despite the icy temperatures!
Next season it will be exactly 20 years since Schmit won his first world title (125cc). Of course Donny, a man of character beyond category, could ride a motorcycle incredibly fast. However, many people will mainly remember him as a simple, friendly boy who made time for his fans.
Schmit was just 29 when he died of a rare blood disease. The former 125cc Supercross champion died unexpectedly the night before the AMA SX Championship was due to visit his hometown of Minnesota. On January 20, the 68.000 MX fans gathered in the Metrodome received a shock when they learned that their local hero was no longer there. The audience honored Donny with a minute of silence.
#401, you'll never be forgotten!
