Romain Febvre is crowned MXGP World Champion
Romain Febvre has been crowned the new MXGP World Champion in Assen, Netherlands. It is the 23-year-old Frenchman's very first world title in motocross and this is already “Rookie” in the MXGP class. Febvre was able to benefit somewhat from the heavy injury problems that exist in the MXGP with, among others, Cairoli, Villopoto, Desallle, etc. But on the other hand, the Frenchman has already managed to win six GPs this season and that is also something. say about the young Yamaha rider. The Grand Prix in Assen was won by the Scottish KTM rider Shaun Simpson.
Unstoppable Shaun Simpson…
Max Nagl was the man who led the gang for Butron, Bobryshev and Paulin. In the third corner after the start, Shaun Simpson crashed briefly, but fortunately he was able to right himself just as quickly. We got Febvre in tenth place and Van Horebeek was in fourteenth place. On the second lap, Russian Bobryshev took the lead from Nagl and a little later Paulin also moved into second place. In the meantime, Simpson had also gained steam and a few laps later he joined the HRC boys. Paulin was allowed to take the lead from his teammate for one lap, but there was already Shaun Simpson who pushed the two HRC riders back one place and took over the lead. Behind this trio, Nagl was in fourth place and the fighting duo Coldenhoff-Febvre was in his wake. This pair then passed the German and continued in their mutual duel. However, the leader in the standings ultimately had to let the Dutchman go and Coldenhoff finished fourth ahead of Romain Febvre. The series victory went to Scot Shaun Simpson who held Honda riders Paulin-Bobryshev behind him. Our compatriot Jeremy Van Horebeek was able to make up some places after the start and would eventually finish seventh. From our other compatriots, Dewulf and Delince also took some World Cup points in this first series.

Romain Febvre wins and takes the MXGP world title!!!
Spaniard José Butron took the holeshot ahead of Ferris, Bobryshev and Febvre in this second series. The winner of the first series Shaun Simpson was in fifth place and Gautier Paulin was just in the top ten. Bobryshev took over the lead from Butron in the opening lap, but Febvre also quickly moved to second place, followed by Simpson. Our compatriot Jeremy Van Horebeek was in fifth place and was in a duel with home rider Glenn Coldenhoff. The Dutchman, who was strongly supported by the home crowd, was eventually able to pass Van Horebeek when he made a mistake. De Jerre lost two places and would eventually finish seventh. At the front, Bobryshev succumbed halfway through the race under the pressure of Romain Febvre, who was on course for the title from the moment he took the lead. Especially because Paulin was in fifth place. Coldenhoff rode to second place and Simpson only needed a third place to secure the GP victory. So we had to wait to see whether Paulin would disrupt Febvre's championship party. Romain Febvre crossed the finish line as the winner and so he had to look out for Paulin. Coldenhoff finished second and that still gave him a podium place. Shaun Simpson crossed the finish line third and took his second GP win of the season. This immediately provided relief for Romain Febvre and the entire Yamaha Team because Paulin had not gone further than fourth place and so with two races to go in Mexico and the US the gap is no longer bridgeable and Romain Febvre is the new MXGP World Champion 2015. Finally, our compatriot Jeffrey Dewulf finished in an impressive tenth place in this second series.
