World Championship Sidecar Cross starts tomorrow in Oldebroek!
We would not be surprised if there were more cars with Belgian license plates on Monday than would otherwise be in the parking lot of the Bargen circuit in Oldebroek. The first Sidecar Cross GP of the year will be held on that circuit.
For reigning world champions Joris Hendrickx and Kaspars Liepins it is important to start their title defense in the den of the (Dutch) Lion. By the Dutch Lion we obviously mean sidecar cross legend Daniël Willemsen. The 7-time sidecar cross world champion, who will compete for Ukraine this year, avoided the world title last year due to an injury.
Willemsen-Eggink is your favorite, right?
During the opening competition of the Belgian Sidecar Cross Championships, check out the video here, In Genk, Willemsen showed, together with baking artist Gertie Eggink, that despite everything he is still there. Willemsen-Eggink simply took away the two heats and thus fired a warning shot across the bow of Hendrickx-Liepins and Hendrickx-Smeuninx. It is expected that the battle for the 2010 sidecar cross world title will be fought between these three combinations. However, there are plenty of other teams that can steal valuable points from the favorites or even occasionally come away with series and GP victories. We think primarily of the Latvian Daiders brothers, but also of the other Latvians Rupeiks-Kurpnieks. Even more opposition from the East comes from the Czech brotherhood pairs Rozehnal and Cermak. Eternal outsiders are the Germans Happich-Betschart.
The Dutch side will also have to wait and see how the new young combination Etienne Bax-Ben Van Den Boogaart develops. Both the driver and the driver have the potential to become world champions. To what extent this will be successful this year remains to be seen. We can also expect occasional outliers from the Visser brothers and Peter Steegmans-Sven Verbrugge.
Today the qualifications for the GP were on the program in Oldebroek. The results Our colleagues at sidecarcross.be have listed these on the forum.
