Dream debut for Jago Geerts
In Buchanan, Jago Geerts impressed during the first qualifying race for the 2022 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations. The 22-year-old Yamaha rider wins the MXGP class ahead of Eli Tomac and Jeremy Seewer. Glenn Coldenhoff also scored well with a sixth place.
When the starting gate drops, Jeremy Seewer takes the best start ahead of Mitch Evans, Coldenhoff and Geerts. The Belgian manages to pass the Dutchman quite quickly and Seewer makes a mistake before completing the first lap. Evans takes the lead but Geerts immediately goes on the attack. The Australian has to bow to the vice world champion MX2 and Geerts then distances himself. Tomac needs some time to get up to operating temperature, but then it loosens up completely. From seventh place he works his way back very quickly to join Seewer with two laps to go. The Swiss manages to defend himself for a long time, but a mistake for 'Larrocco's Leap' ensures that Tomac passes. Geerts wins the first qualifying of the day ahead of his Yamaha colleagues. Evans takes fourth place ahead of Jorge Prado and Coldenhoff, who doesn't seem to take any risks.
