Bax/Stupelis win the first GP heat in Oldebroek!
Bax/Stupelis won the first round during the sidecar GP in Oldebroek. Willemsen/Rostingt were in first position for a long time, but had to bow to Bax who came forward from midfield at 2/3 of the heat. Willemsen/Rostingt finished second, with Giraud/Haller close behind and finishing third.
The holeshot went to Willemsen, who had Brown, Giraud and Sanders close behind him. Bax, Vanluchene and Hermans were less away and had to start their battle from midfield. A number of combinations were affected by a crash in the first round just after the table mountain behind the starting field. For example, Veldman, who had to qualify via the last change on Saturday and therefore had to start from the second row, had to drive from the very back to the front.
At the front, Willemsen walked slightly away from Brown and later Giraud who had passed the English combination. Bax, Vanluchene and Hermans rode forward as if on a train until they suddenly missed Hermans who had to continue the battle in 24th place. Things would also go less well later with World Champion Vanluchene, who got stuck in a deep rut, making it impossible to really get to the front. Ultimately, Vanluchene would work his way up to fourth place because Sanders was passed in the final phase, who would finish fifth.
After about fifteen minutes, Bax had reported himself at the front and unceremoniously rolled up all the other combinations. Willemsen, who now saw a battle-weary player next to him, also capitulated in the 22nd minute to Bax/Stupelis, who impressively won the heat ahead of Willemsen and Giraud. Vanluchene would then be fourth with Sanders in fifth and Stuart Brown would then be sixth.
In the end it was a very good seventh position for Veldman, who managed to overtake more than 20 sidecars from the back like a hot knife through butter.
Hermans/Musset managed to fight back to eighth place, followed by the Swiss Cuche brothers in ninth place and the Briton Hodges who nicely completed the top ten.
