Championship final in a minor key for Jeffrey Dewulf
Before the weekend, Jeffrey Dewulf (KTM North Europe Racing) still had a view of the title in the 24MX Championnat de France des sables. After all, the difference with leader Milko Potisek was barely 10 points. However, a dramatic Le Touquet defeated “JD”.
In the end, neither Dewulf nor Potisek took the title. Because in the end, Nathan Watson, this winter's beach king, passed both gamecocks in the championship!
“I got off to a good start. On the second lap I was fourth and I had the leaders in my sights. So we were perfectly on schedule. At the end of the second lap I got stuck in a traffic jam. I had nowhere to go and you always have to be careful what you do so as not to risk a time penalty or exclusion. Other riders looked for an exit along the course and cut off a large section," Jeffrey explains.
Dewulf was severely beaten back but continued to fight. After the 11th round he was in 14th position. However, due to his strong condition and experience, there were still opportunities at the end of the competition to achieve a decent final result. And to still redeem the title. However, it was not to be. “On the third final lap, a doubled rider fell in front of me, just as I was pushing off a jump. This caused me to fall over and hurt my wrist. Normally I haven't broken anything, but I will know more about this soon," said the West Flemish beach racing specialist. Read here the latest update on Jeffrey's wrist.
In the final score, Jeffrey Dewulf became the best Belgian in third place. Daymond Martens finished sixth, Yentel Martens finished 8th.
