DThe home GP of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing turned out to be one of two halves. MXGP rookie Kay de Wolf delivered his best performance of the season. For Liam Everts, Lommelwood 2026 was an edition to quickly forget.

Second in timed practice, second in the qualifying race on Saturday, and "the Poulidor" every time behind a dominant Jeffrey Herlings during the races on Sunday. Former MX2 world champion de Wolf was in blazing form. Thanks to his second podium of the season, Kay is now 9th in the World Championship, 64 points behind Tom Vialle.

Kay de wolf: "Yes, it was a very good weekend. I struggled a bit in the first race, but I'm actually glad that happened, because we made an adjustment for the second race and I learned a lot from it. That is why we came back from injury – to learn and keep building – so I am very proud of the performance we delivered.

I was also really lucky with Romain in that second moto. He went down hard, did a handstand, and landed right in front of me, causing me to hit him and unable to avoid him. I heard he was okay, and that’s the most important thing. It was a tough moto, but I gave it my all. Now I’m looking forward to Sweden and especially to Arnhem in two weeks for my home GP. Hopefully, we’ll see a lot of Dutch fans there. I couldn’t do this without the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory team, so a huge thank you to everyone.”

First flying start of the season but never the right feeling

Liam Evert: It was a tough weekend. I didn't put too much pressure on myself, but I struggled a bit with both the track and the bike. I just couldn't find the feeling I was looking for. Two crashes on Saturday also cost me quite a bit of time and energy, so it was a day of ups and downs. The start of the first race was really good. I took my first holeshot of the year, which was very nice and certainly a positive point. Unfortunately, we had engine trouble after that, which put us out of the race and ruined our chances of a podium finish. That was a bitter pill to swallow, but those things just happen in motorsport and in life.

I also made a pretty good start in the second heat. I think I was riding around second or third place, but right from the opening lap I struggled a lot. There was really no escaping it. I tried to find my rhythm and make the best of it, but it was a really tough race for me. In the end, I finished fifth in the second heat. I gave it my all, but fifth was the best I could do that day, and naturally I’m not really satisfied with that result. It wasn’t the weekend we had hoped for, but we’ll take what we can, keep working, and push on towards Sweden.”
