IThe first MX2 race was just held in sunny Lommel. The large crowd saw a fast Camden McLellan win the heat, while the unfortunate Liam Everts had to retire with a defective engine.
The holeshot was taken by home rider Liam Everts, but he was overtaken shortly afterwards by Maxime Grau. Before the end of the opening lap, World Championship leader Guillem Farres was already the new leader. He was followed by Everts, Längenfelder, Janis Reisulis, and Lata. Sacha Coenen suffered a crash right away and had to restart from P18.
After four laps, polesitter Camden McLellan was in sixth place and was fast enough to make up a few positions. Sacha Coenen also found good pace and was now in P12. Meanwhile, Guillem Farres had pulled away from Liam Everts by about four seconds.
Liam Everts had to retire due to a defective machine.
Halfway through the race, Kay Karssemakers had to retire due to a defective engine. McLellan had managed to overtake Längenfelder and was now in fourth place, about eight seconds behind leader Farres. Shortly afterwards, Janis Reisulis and Liam Everts also fell victim. The South African then set out to chase his teammate Farres. A poor lap by Everts caused the Husqvarna rider to drop a few places; P5 was now his lot. An engine defect turned out to be the cause, as shortly afterwards Everts even retired from the race.
Guillem Farres then made a few mistakes, allowing McLellan to take the lead from the Spaniard without having to fight much. Due to those errors, he suddenly found himself in P3 and had to pull out all the stops to hold off Karlis Reisulis. McLellan won the race ahead of Längenfelder and Farres. Sacha Coenen managed a strong comeback to finish in sixth place.
The second MX2 race will be held later today at 16:10 PM.
