NAfter a long summer break, the VMCF season got underway again in Velzeke, East Flanders, a sub-municipality of Zottegem. Sportively, however, not much had changed, as Mattéo Puffet dominated the Inters in the Flemish Ardennes as usual and also demonstrated his skills on the occasion of the 1e 125 Cup, an initiative by organizer Jurgen De Smet.
Twenty-two Inters had traveled to Velzeke, including Belgian Championship leader Mattéo Puffet. It was, therefore, the Liège-based Yamaha rider who, not surprisingly, managed to take the holeshot in the opening round. Puffet led ahead of Jilani Cambré, Alexandre Viltard, Dimitri Widar, and Theo Hamerel. After a few laps, Widar dropped out of the race, allowing Hamerel to move into the top 4. When Jilani Cambré made a mistake a few laps from the end, Hamerel and Viltard capitalized on it to claim places 2 and 3. Puffet had, of course, already pulled away by then. Behind Cambré, Karel Schepmans completed the top 5. Jasper Vandermieren was the best 250cc rider in 8th place.
In the restart, it was Matteo Puffet who took the lead again. Puffet would not be threatened this time either. Alexandre Viltard occupied second place for the entire heat. Initially, he stayed ahead of Jilani Cambré, but the rider from the Kempen region dropped out of the race just past the halfway point. Karel Schepmans then took over third place, while Théo Hamerel, who had made a strong comeback from 10th place, finished fourth. Ilan Heirwegh rounded off the top 5. Vandermieren finished 8th again.E and was thus the best quarter-liter driver.
Mattéo Puffet was the overall winner in the Inters 500 and was flanked on the podium by Alexandre Viltard and Théo Hamerel. Jasper Vandermieren was joined on the 250 podium by Kyel Lins and Tom De Belder.
125 Cup
In Velzeke, too, there was a 'dessert' on the program, in the form of the 125 Cup. The fact that the crackling two-strokes are still popular was evident from the 25 participants who turned up for a single final, which was won by Mattéo Puffet ahead of Yoran Moens and Sem Demeester. 'Good old' Jan Blanquaert finished just off the podium.
