IIn Foxhill, Spanish Triumph rider Guillem Farres took a significant step forward in the MX2 World Championship. He won both races and takes the lead from a bravely riding Sacha Coenen. Simon Längenfelder and Camden McLellan joined in spraying champagne on the podium. Liam Everts finished fourth in Foxhill today.
First series
Guillem Farres took the lead in the first race immediately after the start, closely followed by Liam Everts and Simon Längenfelder. While Sacha Coenen started in twelfth place after a difficult start, Everts soon lost his position to reigning world champion Längenfelder. However, Coenen did not give up and, despite a recent broken collarbone, began a strong comeback. After ten minutes, Farres was still leading with a steady advantage, while Coenen had meanwhile impressively worked his way up to seventh place.
In the second half of the race, misfortune struck for several riders. Coenen saw his advance halted by a crash on lap seven and dropped back to fourteenth place, while Kay Karssemakers had to retire due to engine trouble. Further down the field, Camden McLellan took fourth place from Janis Reisulis. Ultimately, Farres rode to an unchallenged victory, followed by Längenfelder and Everts, while Ferruccio Zanchi had to retire early after a heavy crash with his Ducati.
Second series
This time it was Simon Längenfelder who took the holeshot. He was followed by Sacha Coenen and Guillem Farres. The latter immediately went on the attack and beat Coenen to take P2 from the Belgian. Liam Everts had once again gotten off to a good start and was in fourth place after a few corners. The unfortunate Zanchi had not started the race and was licking his wounds in the paddock.
Längenfelder quickly went down in an innocent corner, giving the lead away to Farres. The latter gratefully took to the open road and tried to build a lead over his pursuers. Liam Everts then began to attack Coenen's position with P3 at stake. The Nestan Husqvarna rider then squandered a potential podium spot and slid out in a corner. McLellan gratefully took advantage of the mistake.
At the front, Guillem Farres finally came under pressure from Längenfelder. Halfway through the race, a first attack came, but Farres countered decisively. A lap later, the German tried again, but once again Farres had an answer. Meanwhile, Liam Everts had overtaken the bravely riding Sacha Coenen and took third place from his compatriot.
Liam Everts was determined to secure a podium spot and tried to get on Camden McLellan's rear wheel. With three laps to go, Farres held a seven-second lead over Längenfelder. The fast Spaniard thus won his eleventh MX2 race and took another one-two finish. Simon Längenfelder finished second, ahead of McLellan and Everts. Farres naturally won the British GP, with Simon Längenfelder and Camden McLellan joining him on the podium. The courageous Sacha Coenen managed to limit the damage and still managed to finish fifth in this race.
Next week, the championship continues in the Czech Republic, and Guillem Farres will start with the red plate on his Triumph for the first time. He now has an 11-point lead over Sacha Coenen. It is also the first time in history that Triumph is leading a motocross championship.
