OThe sixth round of the British Championship was held at the beautifully maintained Canada Heights racecourse in the suburbs of London along the M25. Conrad Mewse (MX1) and Charlie Heyman (MX2) remain in the lead. However, the day's victories went to Gyan Doensen and Oriol Oliver, both from Shaun Simpson's team.
In the opening of the MX1, Oriol set the tone. First ahead of Tristan Purdon, until the latter was overtaken by Mewse, who came from sixth place. Purdon remained third, while Taylor Hammal's impressive comeback earned him fourth place ahead of Ben Watson, who had completely missed his start.
The final race saw a restart and Ben Watson took the lead. For four full laps, but then Oliver came knocking on the door. Mewse, who had joined him, went with him. Watson seemed to be holding onto third place, but he retired two laps from the end. Thus, Adam Sterry finished fourth ahead of Purdon. Oliver, Mewse, and Purdon formed the top three for the day's standings. Mewse remains the leader as I mentioned, but Oliver closes the gap to 16 points. Ben Watson, who lost important points due to the retirement, remains third.
Doensen needs to dig deep
Only a few laps before the end, Guyan Doensen, who started second, managed to snatch the lead from Charlie Heyman. Naturally, the gap remained small at the finish line. Billy Askew, who had held third place for a while, had to let Ollie Colmer and Ben Mustoe pass him after the first half of the race. Race two was a completely different story. At first, it looked like no one could threaten the duo of Jamie Keith and Ben Mustoe anymore. Musto made a mistake on lap seven, Keith two laps later. Askew had already overtaken Joe Brookes to take third place and thus inherited the lead within two laps. Not to win, however, as Brookes recovered and still won the final race ahead of Askew and Joël Rizzi. And what about Doensen? Well, he gradually moved up in Rizzi's slipstream and landed in fourth place ahead of Mustoe. That was enough for the day's victory, followed by Brookes and Askew. In the Belgian Championship standings, Heyman remains the leader with a still fairly large margin over Doensen and Mustoe.
