RUbén Fernández dominated the MX1 class again in Montearagón, while Daniela Guillén and Oleguer Riba consolidated their lead. Tiburcio came out on top in the MX2.
The Spanish Motocross Championship reached its turning point this weekend in Montearagón, halfway through the season. The race was marked by high temperatures and the ironclad form of the various championship leaders. Rubén Fernández was once again the absolute benchmark in MX1, Daniela Guillén emerged stronger in the women's (Féminas) class, and Oleguer Riba took another step forward in MX125. In MX2, the day's victory went to Bernardo Tiburcio after an intense race day on Sunday.
The race in the province of Toledo was the last one before the summer break. Various championships are starting to take shape increasingly clearly, although there is still enough margin to keep the excitement going during the second half of the season.
MX Montearagon 2026: Fernández still has no competition
Rubén Fernández arrived in Montearagón after having competed in the Motocross World Championship just a week earlier. He demonstrated once again the magnitude of the difference in race pace that he is dictating in the national championship this season.
The Galician was already the fastest in practice on Saturday and also won the qualifying race. On Sunday, he continued that form effortlessly. In the first race, he needed only a few laps to take the lead after Víctor Alonso grabbed the holeshot. Once in the lead, he controlled his advantage without difficulty until the checkered flag.
The second heat was, if possible, even clearer. Fernández started first, set the pace from the start, and gave his pursuers not a ghost of a chance.
Behind them, José Antonio Butrón once again scored important points with a second place in the daily standings, while Víctor Alonso completed the podium after a competitive weekend.
Tiburcio changes the script in the MX2
If Saturday in the MX2 class had one name, it was that of David Braceras. The Spanish rider started the weekend with pole position and a win in the qualifying race, immediately making him one of the big favorites for the Sunday races.
The outcome, however, unfolded differently. Bernardo Tiburcio took center stage as soon as the starting gate dropped and won both points races of the weekend. Furthermore, the Brazilian claimed both holeshots and managed to perfectly control the situation whenever the pressure mounted.
The second race provided one of the most entertaining moments of the day. Adrià Monné closed the gap to Tiburcio and the two engaged in a direct duel for the victory, exchanging the lead for several consecutive laps. Ultimately, the Brazilian found just that little bit of extra margin in the decisive final stages to secure the win.
Monné finished the race in second place and retains the lead in the championship during the summer break. Braceras finished third in the day's standings after two strong comeback races.
Riba widens the gap further.
Oleguer Riba continues to build a very solid season in the MX125. After his victory on Saturday, he stood on the top step of the podium again on Sunday, following a race that was actually much more open than the result suggests.
Pau Caudet, Jordi Alba, and José Luis Moreno battled it out alongside the championship leader in a race full of position changes. The fight was constant until Moreno had to retire due to mechanical problems at the moment he was fully in contention for the front positions.
The victory was ultimately decided in a head-to-head duel between Riba and Caudet. The championship leader found the right rhythm in the final laps to open up a small gap and claim another victory. As a result, he heads into the second half of the season with an increasingly comfortable lead.
Daniela Guillén continues to dominate
In the women's race, Daniela Guillén was once again the benchmark. The Catalan rider was the fastest from practice onwards and closed the weekend with two race victories, further reinforcing her status as a title contender.
Jana Sánchez finished second in both heats and was the only one who could stay relatively close to the leader. A good distance behind her, Carmen Gómez and Anna González once again fought a fierce battle for the final podium spot, which was ultimately decided in Gómez's favor.
Thanks to the results in Montearagón, Guillén heads into the summer break with the reins firmly in hand, confirming her consistent form since the start of the championship.
The championship enters the second half.
The race in Montearagón concluded the first part of the season and confirmed the current standings: Fernández continues to set the pace in MX1, Monné retains the lead in MX2, Riba extends his lead in MX125, and Guillén remains sovereign in the lead among the ladies.
After the summer break, the Spanish Motocross Championship returns to Alcañiz in September, where the decisive phase of the season begins.
